After School Classes for Kids Ages 4-18
All of our classes provide a safe and exciting opportunity for students ages 4-18 to broaden their "taste bud horizons" and explore the world of delicious and healthy foods.
Through the experience of cooking, reluctant eaters begin to realize that there is more to life than pasta with butter and cheese and chicken nuggets. Whether students participate in a one-hour weekly class or a week-long session of summer camp, they will regularly encounter new and exciting food experiences.
Throughout any of the Vanilla Beans classes, students will not only have regular opportunities to prepare and experience new foods, they will also be learning invaluable life skills such as reading and interpreting food labels in a market, practicing the art of table manners and etiquette, working with math and science in a meaningful, real-life way and understanding how to independently make food choices that will benefit their bodies and minds.
Preschool children Cook With Carrie on Mondays and Tuesdays from 2:15-3:15. Minimum enrollment for these classes is three students, maximum is five.
Classes for children in grades K-5 are held Monday through Friday from 4:00-5:00. Children sign up for the day of the week that best suits their schedule and are permitted to make up two classes per semester when they must be absent. Classes range in size from 4-10 students. Classes that have more than 6 students will be taught by both Debbie and Carrie. These classes prepare two recipes each week, one savory and one sweet.
After school classes for students in grade 6-12 are held from 2:50-3:50 on Monday through Friday. On occasions when the need arises, we often schedule a class for students in grades 6-12 during the 4:00 time slot, instead of an elementary school group. (This is particularly helpful for students who are involved in sports immediately after school.)
